Goa Government Proposes Reservation of 4 Assembly Seats for Scheduled Tribes (STs)
The Department of Tribal Welfare in Goa has proposed to the Central Government that four assembly seats be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made this announcement during a meeting with a delegation representing the ST community.
The decision to propose the reservation of seats was made based on a recommendation from Kirit Premjibhai Solanki, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Welfare of SCs/STs, who directed the Goa government to reserve seats in the state assembly for STs.
Prakash Velip, the president of the United Tribal Association Alliance (UTAA), stated that the delegation met with Chief Minister Sawant on June 1 to inquire about the progress of political reservation for STs.
