The Menezes Braganza House – Chandor
A historic site located in a village called Chandor, situated near the church square, the house is known to be more than 450 years old. The Menezes Braganza House the distance is about 15km from Margao city. A beautiful and fascinating house, maintained by 16 generations with lots of antiques inside placed with the utmost care it is a great structure of art and craftsmanship.
Firstly, the house is made of laterite has a garden with mosaic seats, tables, and fountains.
However, a very low entry fee is charged for maintenance purposes, the house is unlike anything you will ever get to see.
Meanwhile, there are two parts of the mansion, the entry fee is charged separately for each part per head.
For visiting it is advisable to call and fix timings to ensure the inmates and the lady of the house are not disturbed.
Bollywood and Hollywood movies are also shot here.
According to family history, in the 17th century A.F.S. Braganza Pereira was representing Goa under the Portuguese government as a vice-consul general in Spain.
The house is divided into two equal halves as it was inherited by two sisters in the family, which was named after their husbands.

The History of Braganza Family
On the left, as you enter the house which is well maintained and where you will understand the true history of the Braganza family. Then as you proceed to the right you will learn more about the history and their small Chapel. Similarly, a nail of St. Francis Xavier is held by the Petite Chapel which is still used in the Braganza Pereira house
In addition, both sides have magnificent ballrooms that shouldn’t be missed as there are the two chairs bearing the coat of arms gifted by the Portuguese king.

There is a Great Salon and a library which is believed to be the first library in Goa. It has something like around 5000 leather bounds books which were collected by Luis de Menezes Braganza. A journalist renowned for the part he played in Goa’s independent movement
