Tambdi Surla Temple – Mahadev Temple

The Temple lies to the south of Goa. And since I lived in Margao, I traveled from Margao via Ponda to Surla. So, that distance was covered in almost 1. 45 min, approximately 56 kilometers.

Moreover, If you are traveling from Panjim, then the distance is 1.50 mins approximately 68 kilometers.

As we reached the Bhagwan Mahavir National Park, I could sense a complete silence. Meanwhile, a monkey was jumping on a tree and a little distance away as I covered. Hence, heard some peacocks crying and birds chirping.

So, as per history, the temple was established in the 12th century. In short by a minister of the Yadava King Ramachandra. Therefore, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, it stands on a simple molded plinth.

The temple faces to the east so that the early morning sun rays directly fall on the face of the deity. However, in the center of the Mandap lies a headless Nandiwhich is surrounded by four matching columns.

Consequently, because of its remote location, the temple had survived invasions and the Goa Inquisitions.
It is considered to be the only specimen of Kadamba architecture to be preserved and maintained in Goa.
