Basilica of Bom Jesus-Inside the Church

Bom Jesus’ means ‘Infant Jesus’ or ‘Good Jesus’. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a Roman Catholic basilica located in Old Goa, the former capital of Portuguese India.

It is one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World and an iconic monument that is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

 

Where is the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa?

It is located in Old Goa Rd, Bainguinim. The distance from Panjim is about 12km, approximately a little over 20 min. driving.

And from Margao via NH 66 is a 34km distance and it can take a little about one hours drive.

The closest railway station is the Karmali station which is just about 10min.

 

Basilica of Bom Jesus Timings

There are no fixed timings the schedules of mass timings change therefore, make sure you check the timings when required.

Sunday – 8.00am, 9.15am and 6.00pm in Konkani, 10.15am in English

Mon to Sat – 7.00am, 8.00am and 6.00pm

The Basilica is open to the public for viewing and exploration at the following times:

Mon to Sat – 9.00 am to 6.30 pm

Sunday – 10.30 am to 6.30 pm

Dress Code

The church Authorities seems to be following the moral crusaders and thus new dress guidelines are incorporated.

The dress code shall be maintained revealing clothes such as sleeveless and shorts are not allowed. T. shirts with odd text should not be worn. Respect the ways of the church.

 

Is Old Goa Churches Open During the Pandemic?

Due to the Pandemic, the government of Goa has issued Covid guidelines for tourists visiting Goa. Passengers arriving in Goa shall carry a COVID negative test report done not more than 72 hours.

The churches are partially open all over Goa.

 

Is There Any Stall inside the Church to Purchase Holy items?

There is one main stall to purchase holy items of all kinds besides relics of St. Francis Xavier. You can find more stalls  around the other churches as well.

 

Parking Facility

Separate paid parking is available some 500 meters away from the church, besides free parking place is available little distance away.
