The Church or the Chapel Our Lady of the Mount – is a Roman Catholic Church which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is located in Old Goa on a hilltop. 

Visitors can access Chapel Our Lady of the Mount by road and don’t worry about parking space as parking place is also sufficient there.

 Hence, you can have a wonderful view of the Mandovi River and the Cathedrals from the top elevation.

Well, it is also a perfect location for movie shoots. Few Bollywood movies like Golmaal 4 and Singh is Bling etc. were shot here.

Hence, go and visit this fabulous Chapel, Our Lady of the Mount, if you are one of them who would love to watch the sunset. This is one of the best locations to view from the top. Also, a perfect place for pre-wedding shoots.

 Brief History of the Church

Therefore, Monti Hill Church is one of the oldest Churches built between 1510 and 1519. This Church was built using the laterites stones.

To celebrate, the feast of Our Lady of the Mount, the annual music festival is held in the month of November, a unique kind of festival which is spread for 4 days with traditional Indian and Western music.

 

This particular monument site is declared to be of state importance. It’s an Archeological site therefore, any damages/ defaces, removes, etc. is liable for a fine.

Final Views

 

Plan to spend some alone time in solitude, this is the best place in the hustle of Goa. Since it is surrounded by lush green trees it will surely make one feel captivated by nature.

Therefore, I would recommend you to visit Chapel Our Lady of the Mount here in the rainy season or just after the rains. If you want to see the nausea beauty at its best.

Don’t expect much crowd here as the locals hardly visit. The Church is always kept closed since no Masses are held.
